Alongside President Goodluck Jonathan, major figures in the Nigerian cabinet outlined an aggressive development programme over the next four years for Nigeria at the 2nd annual Africa Business Round Table at the Palace Hotel in New York Thursday September 22. The plan included new infrastructure, in energy and transportation, and an increase in petroleum and natural gas exports. Gathered were international investors and consultants keen on assessing the new administrations commitment to development and growth and receptiveness of private sector investors. Guest speakers included former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. While the bulk of the investors were interested in energy and infrastructure sectors, a number of participants came from hospitality and tourism, agriculture, and manufacturing. The government is poised to make Nigeria the largest economy in Africa and a major player on the global economic stage.

Arise is Bullish on African Fashion

20 Sep

Arise Magazine made a bullish bet on African Fashion during New York Fashion Week putting on the biggest display of the season to showcase 7 African designers. In a region where the most common business ventures are in commodities and infrastructure, Arise is among the many movers on the continent urging investors and entrepreneurs alike to look at other sectors. The magazine showcases fashion, music, and cultural arts from around the continent all of which have budding industries from Nairobi to Lagos. As the frontier economies in Africa continue to rise, expect the arts and entertainment industries to Arise as well.
